College Governance

Hill James Partnership offers a wide range of flexible, tailor-made governance support and development services to chairs of college governing bodies, governors, the clerk to the corporation, principals, senior college managers. These services aim to achieve high impact college governance through well-considered decision making. A working assumption is used in favour of low quantity/high quality paperwork to support college governing bodies.

Hill James Partnership offers governance support and development through

contributing to governor development events
mentoring the chair, the principal and the clerk (either as a group or as individuals)
reviewing current Board practices to identify areas for development
working with a Board over a defined period to identify, recommend and embed governance change processes.

College governance needs to evolve from the accumulated weight of practice and advice since corporate status for colleges in 1993. Hill James Partnership is working with college governing bodies to achieve this evolution at local level.

Ron Hill and Ian James are practising clerks with a wide range of experience and expertise. Hill James Partnership is currently funded by the Centre for Excellence in Leadership to research into college governance implications of the Learning and Skills Council's major policy document 'Framework for Excellence' (July 2006).
